AGM & MANDATORY PARENT MEETING

MONDAY, MAY 13TH
AGM: 7:00PM
PARENT MEETING: 7:30PM – 8:30PM

Southview Alliance Church
20200 Walden Blvd SE
Legacy Centre located on the main floor

The mandatory Parent Meeting & AGM will be held on the same evening. All are invited to attend the AGM but it is not requried for participation in Small Time Theatre. The AGM will be held during the first 30 minutes of the meeting. At our AGM we review the positions of the Board of Directors. Please reach out to let us know if you have any interest in joining the Board, at least one week before the meeting.

Directly following will be the mandatory parent meeting for those with a child interested in auditoning for this upcoming season. There will be a sign-in sheet for attendance at the parent meeting. The purpose of a mandatory meeting is to explain the audition process and provide information on the cast and volunteer commitment. The audition sign-up deadline is 11:59pm the day following the Parent Meeting to allow the parent/family/child time to decide if they have an interest in auditioning with all the information given at the Parent Meeting. There will also be a time allotted for a Q & A so that all attendees can be informed and understand the process behind how these incredible shows make it to the stage.

If there are extenuating circumstances that make it impossible for you to attend the mandatory meeting, please reach out smalltimetheatre@gmail.com.

AUDITION INFORMATION

DATES: May 23, 25 and 30

Southview Alliance Church
20200 Walden Blvd SE
Legacy Rooms 3 & 4

Each performer auditioning must be signed up for 2 time slots, one for the Dancing audition and one for the Singing/Speaking audition. You don’t have to choose the same day, book your child for whichever time slots work best for your schedule. Both are required to audition, regardless of which play the performer is interested in. Each performer is asked to prepare: a ballad, an up-tempo song, and learn assigned lines to be done in a group setting with other performers auditioning. The dance audition is done as a group with simple choreography being taught. You do not need prior dance experience. This is more of an exercise in following instruction and assessing the range of movement. Please wear comfortable clothing and running shoes to the dance segment of the audition.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever – the Musical” and “Fiddler on the Roof Jr.” come with different song options and character lines to be used at the audition. The instructions for each is provided in the documents below. Please read carefully through the information and instructions for the play your child is planning on auditioning for.

The link provided has the auditon sign-ups with the dates/times and the volunteer sign-ups for the family volunteer. Each performer is required to have a volunteer commitment from an adult family member if cast in a play. There are many different roles and descriptions for each can be found here.

Each performer will have the option to select their play preference but if their skills suit the character of another play a part may be offered to them in the other play. Please note: each performer can only be cast in one production.

GENERAL INFO:

While we aim to have rehearsals on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30pm – 6:00pm this could change depending on our rehearsal space. The Christmas production rehearses from September until performances in December. The Spring production rehearses from September until performances in March. Rehearsal location will be announced in the coming months but will remain in south Calgary.

We make every effort to have both productions shine and have quality stage storytelling. A benefit of offering two productions a season is allowing more children to be cast and offering flexibility in scheduling. Some families are able to prioritize the theatre experience for the full 7 months of rehearsals, while others prefer a shorter commitment. Another benefit is the broader range of theatre material. The Christmas production will be contemporary, comedic and feel-good. The Spring production is a period piece with big themes, comedy, drama and powerful songs. This allows a variety of parts to suit different styles and personalities. We hope your child can find a character, a song or any piece of the story to connect too.

As a reminder, our theatre organization has intentionally focused on offering live theatre experiences for children between grades 1 – 9. Because STT works with young children and youth, each year we have children that are performing for the first time mixed in with youth that are returning for another year. You do not have to have prior theatre experience or established dance and singing skills to audition. Each play has a varying number of roles to fill and so not every audtion is cast but do not let a lack of experience prevent an child from trying becasue that is the point – to have an experience!
